New “Old” Camera
After watching the great Sky Arts 1 documentary Close Up: Photographers at Work I fell in love with the idea of using old cameras to make my pictures. With this in mind I have purchased a new camera called a Rolleicord, a picture of one is below -
Now this will be my first foray into medium format cameras which seem to do well at International Competitions. It uses 120 film which is not too expensive and I will be attempting to develop the film myself at home. This will be expensive initially but will save money in the long run.
We have the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize enty closing on the 9th July. I am aiming to submit a photo using this camera into the competition. Now it is called Contemporary Portrait Photography which is an area I am interested in trying. According to photography.com this is
In simple terms, contemporary portrait photography is a photograph of a person, usually focused on the face. While many immediately think of contemporary portraiture as pictures taken by a professional photographer, it can also include candid photos taken by amateur shutterbugs. In either case, the goal of contemporary portraits is to capture the physical likeness, as well as the personality, of the subject.
Looking forward to trying this out and if I get some good quality photos I might decide on using this for the RPS qualification.
Relaxing Day
Been quite a relaxing day today after a hectic week at work. I have been using my Dads old Yashica Lynx 1000 to take various photos today. Trying to get back in the habit of using a film camera, bit of back to basics, to help me appreciate the art of photography. Been looking at a 6 x 4 camera which is a large format camera -
MICROTECHNICAL & S92 5 x 4 inch LARGE FORMAT CAMERAS
This is really going back to basics but want to get one to concentrate on the portraits. This will then go to to my aim of being qualified by the RPS.
After next weekend where three shoots have been completed I will be going through all of my model photos to choose 20 for the Guild of Photographers qualification. Will be posting them on here shortly.
I took some photos of my daughter today after Rowan had put some makeup on her and did her hair. Can’t believe how grown up they all are now.
Jubilee Weekend
Well its the weekend and we have a nice long 4 day break. Luckily I have the whole of next week off so will be taking some more model portfolio shoots with the lovely Sam, Kirsty and Evelyn next week. Will post some pictures up next weekend.
Worked out the Lightroom gallery and uploaded over 600 photos to the secure gallery for the Dance Show. I will be changing the galleries for the weddings, events and portraits in the next week using lightroom so there is a more uniform look to the site.
Time for a change
There will be a major overhaul of the website over the coming weeks. One of the main reasons for this is that with Lightroom 4 I can now export photos to my website easier and with a better look and feel.
I have also linked my blog to my iphone so I can now blog and update on the go.
Instead of being a jack of all trades I am now starting to specialise in Weddings, Events and Family photos. I will still do the model portfolios but I will not be doing TFP/TFCD anymore unless they will enhance my own portfolio.
Dance Show
Had a great time at the Dance Show on Saturday 19th. The costumes the children were wearing were amazing. It was about 4 hours of continuous shooting so was quite relieved to finish and then watch the show at the end.
I will post some photos here shortly.
